The main issue is that in one mission (3rd-last?) there's no indication whatsoever that a super slow-moving ambush is headed towards you. The attacks on the mothership were slightly unnerving in the two missions that happened as my main fleet was far away so I built a bunch of ion frigates and used strike craft to distract them long enough. The waiting (and more waiting) just for them to get somewhere was painful. Even two is enough to annihilate most fleets in a few seconds. I captured every heavy cruiser until the final mission so I has 4 or 5 of them. I'm aware that most people have limited amounts of time for gaming, but that's what saving is for. And anyways, sitting there for a while, even a long while, is not that big a deal I mean, look, you're not complaining about it being difficult, just slow. (Or that's what you did in the original, anyways). Once that happens there won't be any more attacks on the Mothership and you can safely move to attack the Emperor until then, just sit tight. What you want to do is defend the Mothership from attacks until a very specific group of Taiidan show up (you'll know when they do). What a shame, it had such a strong start and some unusual missions for an RTS. youtube will have the final cutscene, I can't do this anymore. I'm going to go eat lunch and hope I've won when I get back.

Now I'm looking at 10 minutes to float back up (they decided to attack from super far below me) and then 15 minutes to get to their base. Ok, so this time I just sat and waited for the reinforcements.

Those who never played it have the ability to play the Remastered version for the visuals and compare to the original. Those who lived and breathed Homeworld for the last 16 years can obtain it easily and run it without issues on their systems. Those players, like me, who remember HW only in the broadest sense get to reexperience the game as our memories say it looked and get to learn the game again. Really, no one loses with this collection.
#HOMEWORLD CATACLYSM WINDOWS 10 PERFORMANCE CODE#
HW1 and HW2 Classic, from my understanding as I haven't played them yet, are the original games with their original code, assets and balance, with some code patches so they run stably under modern Windows and DirectX. As a consequence of the engine port (which was absolutely necessary in order to do the visual upgrades to both games) there are functional differences between HW1 Classic and HW1 Remastered which leads to players who really knew HW1 being a bit, and understandably so, frustrated that it doesn't play exactly like the original. Remastered is HW1 ported into the HW2 engine, visual enhancements using more modern tricks along with rebuilt models, higher-res textures and the original audio re-encoded at higher quality for both games. I am getting a little confused as to exactly what is the original HW1 in the remaster collection. When you get to the point that it's easy to manipulate the game such that an interceptor only win is 've basically beaten the game completely at that point.

Frankly, I can't see how the poster on the GB forum even enjoyed playing HW. Even though I'd be relearning HW anyway this way there's something new to learn as well. Which, really, is all I expected and, if I take a second to honestly think about it, what I wanted. It won't be as pretty as HWR but it's possible. It's doubtful that you could get rid of the HW2 mechanics that forced some of the changes but the balance issues and, possibly, something like research costing RUs should be able to be changed.Īt the end of the day though for anyone who wants a 100% faithful version of HW1 it's there. The Complex team was able to rebase their new version off of HWR so at least whatever level of modding they do is possible. How modable is this game?įrom what they've been saying it sounds pretty moddable. The visuals and sounds are wonderful though.
